Lack of power, water threaten livelihood of Agoncillo residents
Despite the lifting of the lockdown over the towns of Agoncillo and Laurel in Batangas, livestock farmers are wary about the prospects of their livelihood due to the lack of power and water services brought by the unrest of the Taal Volcano.
Hog raiser Rizza Biscocho from Agoncillo said water is necessary in feeding their pigs.
The lack of electricity also means there is no way for water supply to reach their barangay.
“Dati po kasi three times a day sila kumain. Ngayon isang beses na lang dahil po sa tubig. Kulang kami sa tubig baka po maubos wala na kaming kukunan,” Biscocho said in a 24 Oras report by Maki Pulido on Wednesday.
Tilapia breeders Maricel and Elipidio Ramirez said they will move to Metro Manila to look for alternative jobs.
“Kung saan po mapadpad, magkakakatrabaho, do’n na lang kami,” Elpidio said.
Authorities are still patching up electrical lines, transformers, and posts that were felled by fissures formed by volcanic activity. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
