Bishop appeals assistance for Isabela province flood victims
Isabela Catholic bishop David William Antonio on Thursday asked for relief assistance for flood victims in several towns of Isabela province in the northern Philippines.
Several communities and towns in the province were flooded due to heavy rains brought about by Typhoon Tisoy.
An article by Fr. Mickey Cardenas posted on the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news site, quoted Ilagan-based Bishop Antonio as saying donations in cash and in-kind – especially food packs – be brought to their chancery for immediate distribution to communities in need.
Citing Isabela Provincial Police Office's data, Fr. Cardenas said Tisoy's floods rendered several bridges non-passable, including Cabagan-Sto Tomas Bridge and Sta Maria-Cabagan Bridge. Also affected were bridges in Alicaocao, Cauayan City; Brgy Sipat, Cauayan City; Turayong, Cauayan City; Brgy Cabisera 8, Ilagan City; Brgy Baculod, Ilagan City; Brgy Gucab, Echague; Brgy Annafunan, Echague; Brgy Sto Domingo, Quirino; Brgy Sinaoangan Norte, San Agustin; Brgy Colorado, San Guillermo; Brgy Dipacamo, San Guillermo; Brgy Palawan, San Guillermo; Brgy Fugu,Ilagan City and in Brgy Sta Isabel,Ilagan City.
Earlier, provincial capital Ilagan City was declared in a state of calamity due to Tisoy's floods.
City government records show that over 10,349 families or around 30,000 individuals were affected by floods that inundated 41 barangays in 19 towns. —LBG, GMA News
