Local gov't declares state of calamity in Albay
The province of Albay was placed under a state of calamity on Wednesday due to severe tropical storm Tisoy.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan adopted a resolution for the declaration, citing it was "imperative" to implement, complement, and sustain the disaster response activities of the local government.
As of December 2, there are 125,262 evacuees from 31,227 families in the province, according to the Albay Public Information Office.
Free calls and charging services are also being provided by the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office to the affected residents.
Albay is situated in the Bicol region where Tisoy brought strong winds and heavy rains in previous days.
Thirteen people died in four regions of the country due to Tisoy.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, a total of 495,408 individuals or 123,912 families are currently being assisted in Central Luzon, Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Metro Manila, and Mimaropa. — MDM, GMA News
