38,000 residents evacuated in Quezon province —governor
Around 38,000 individuals or 14,000 families in Quezon Province were evacuated due to the onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy, Governor Danilo Suarez told Balitanghali on Tuesday.
Suarez said he has given local government units the power to decide whether the evacuees can already return to their homes.
Some residents, especially those in coastal areas, had to be forcibly evacuated after they were uncooperative with local authorities.
The governor also reported a storm surge that reached up to 4 meters in height but said the situation remained manageable.
“Ngayon lang ako nagkaroon ng ganitong experience ng malakas na bagyo. Ito ang pinakamalakas at saka matagal,” he said.
No casualties were recorded in the province, but the flooring of the San Andres Port was destroyed by the typhoon.
Suarez also said they have stocks of relief goods already prepared for the evacuees.
As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals No. 3 and 2 remained hoisted over Quezon Province according to state weather bureau PAGASA. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
