Reminiscent of their exodus five years ago due to Typhoon Glenda, residents of Atimonan town in Quezon found themselves once again evacuating to safety before the projected onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy strikes.

The landfall of Typhoon Tisoy is expected between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

According to a 24 Oras report by Jun Veneracion, over 1,000 residents from 19 barangays were forcibly and preemptively evacuated by local authorities as early as 4 p.m. on Monday.

Such evacuations were last enforced during Typhoon Glenda five years ago.

“Medyo na-late kami noon. As early as kaninang hapon ay meron nang forced evacuation sa mga high-risk area,” Mayor Rustico Mendoza said.

Critical areas in Atimonan include its coastal barangays, and landslide-prone and flood-prone areas.

Local authorities expect more residents to evacuate their homes as the typhoon nears landmass.
