271 houses in Kadingilan, Bukidnon damaged by 5.9 quake

A total of 271 houses were damaged in Kadingilan, Bukidnon after the province was jolted by a 5.9-magnitude earthquake on Monday night.

According to a Wednesday report on Balitanghali by Victoria Tulad, most of the houses were partially damaged while a few were totally damaged.

Six of the partially damaged houses in Barangay Husayan are said to have been made of light materials.

Residents have flocked to the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) tents to claim relief goods.

The DSWD was able to provide affected residents with rice, two canned goods, and a pot for cooking.

“Kailangan na [ng additional relief goods] kasi maliit na lang ‘yung natira,” said Ruby Diokno of the DSWD.

Kadilingan Mayor Jerry Canoy said there is no need to declare a state of calamity.

“Hindi naman sila ma-relocate kasi okay naman ang lupa nila. ‘Di sila ando’n sa malambot na lupa,” he said.

The local government’s municipal and legislative buildings also sustained cracks due to the quake.

Authorities said the affected buildings have already been declared safe for use by the structural engineer. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
