At least 3 hurt in Bukidnon earthquake; some buildings damaged


At least three people were injured and several establishments sustained damage due to the magnitude 5.9 earthquake that hit Bukidnon on Monday night, the Bukidnon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said in its situational report on Tuesday morning.

Valencia City

In Valencia City, the walls of Esther Hospital had cracks. The patients were evacuated but were advised to return to the hospital at around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

High-rise hospitals including the Adventist Medical Center and Valencia Medical Hospital also enforced an evacuation.

Maramag

In the municipality of Maramag, the BUKTRAMCO gasoline station was partially damaged after its wall and window glass sustained serious damage.

Margarette Hotel was partially damaged as well.

At least six homes and the Barangay Camp 1 Building 1 sustained cracks.

Around 80 families or 400 individuals are now staying at P-4 Basketball Court Camp 1 after the earthquake.

Don Carlos

The Simbulan Hospital and Pahilan Hospital in the town of Don Carlos were also partially damaged. At least 56 patients were transferred to the municipal gym.

From Pahilan Hospital, at least 106 patients were also transferred.

Kadilingan

Meanwhile in Kadilingan, six houses in Barangay Husayan were totally damaged, while two homes, which were partially damaged, have already been declared unsafe.

Barangay Kibogtok’s health center had major damage on its ceiling and walls.

The municipal hall, particularly the office of the Sangguniang Bayan, sustained cracks on the walls.

The Kadilingan Police Station had cracks and damage on the walls and ceiling on the third floor of its building.

Two people were brought to the hospital after collapsing and experiencing trauma.

Several aftershocks were also felt in Kadilingan, according to a report by Joseph Morong on GMA News TV's Balitanghali.

Manolo Fortich

More than 90 homes sustained damages in five barangays in the town of Manolo Fortich. One person was also reported hurt, according to Morong's report.

Some of the residents slept outside their homes fearing possible aftershocks.

Other areas

Cotabato City, Koronadal, South Cotabato, and Davao City also felt the 5.9-magnitude earthquake.

All classes in Valencia City, Don Darlos, Kadilingan, and Maramag in Bukidnon have been canceled by their respective mayors.

Some classes in Cotabato were canceled as well.

The magnitude 5.9 earthquake jolted Kadingilan, Bukidnon at 9:22 p.m. on Monday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on Monday that aftershocks and damage were expected. —With a report from Merlyn Manos/Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
