Over 100 families in Cagayan preemptively evacuated

Over 100 families in the town of Gattaran, Cagayan were preemptively evacuated by authorities as the province braced for Tropical Storm Ramon, according to a Monday report on Balitanghali by Jun Veneracion.

Although living conditions in evacuation centers were not ideal, locals had chosen to endure their discomfort and prioritized their safety from possible landslides and flooding.

Some families have been at the evacuation center for the last three nights due to the precarious locations of their homes, some of which were atop mountains or near the Cagayan River.

As of 2 p.m., Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was raised over Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands.

According to the local disaster management office of Gattaran, the level of Cagayan River had still not breached its banks having risen just 3.5 meters. At 9 meters, residents would be forcibly evacuated by authorities. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
