Angat Dam's water level continues to go down —PAGASA

The level of water at the Angat Dam has continued to decline, with only 29 millimeters of rain flowing into the reservoir in October.

The PAGASA Hydro-Meteorological Division recorded Angat Dam's water level to be at 185.41 meters as of 6 a.m. on Saturday, from 186.65 meters on Friday.

Ana Liza Solis, PAGASA Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section chief, said in a Super Radyo dzBB interview that only 29 millimeters of rain came in from October 1 to 25, which is just 10% of the forecast 300 millimeters of rain for the month.

The level of water in other dams have also decreased, she said.

"Gumagawa naman po ng paraan ang water sector. Kahit as early as August po, napag-uusapan na itong mga possible contingency measures," said Solis.

The state weather bureau thus appealed to the public to conserve water, but not to stock up too much as demand will increase.

"Ang gagawin natin po bilang individual na tao dito sa Metro Manila, magtipid ng tubig, ipunin lang po 'yung sapat na puwede nating gagamitin during water interruption. Huwag din po tayong mag-ipon nang sobra-sobra kasi mag-i-increase din po 'yung demand during that time," Solis said.

Solis said the upcoming low-pressure area that is possibly to become a typhoon is expected to bring additional water to Angat Dam.

However, 900 to 1,000 millimeters of rain is needed by the Angat Dam to reach the normal high water level of 212 meters at the end of the year, which is the normal high water level.
