Misamis Occ. mayor accused of punching a massage therapist killed in ambush
The mayor of Clarin, Misamis Occidental was killed in an ambush in Cebu City while he was being transported to the City Prosecutor's Office, according to a report by Cebu stringer John Kim Bote on Super Radyo dzBB.
The ambush was confirmed to GMA News Online by Police Regional Office 7 spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Aurora Rayos.
Mayor David Navarro was shot several times by not less than four suspects armed with high-powered firearms on board a white van, the dzBB report said, citing a witness.
Police said the incident happened along M. Velez Street in Barangay Guadalupe at 2:10 p.m. The suspects immediately escaped.
Navarro was arrested Thursday night for allegedly punching a massage therapist. He also allegedly asked a female massage therapist to perform lewd acts.
In a separate interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Police Major Edgar Sanchez, chief of the police station where Navarro was detained, said five others were wounded in the ambush — four civilians and one policeman.
Sanchez said they were supposed to file complaints of physical injury, acts of lasciviousness and usurpation of authority against Navarro.
Investigation was still ongoing as of posting time.
"As of now inaalam, iniimbestigahan pa natin kung ilan ang namuno," said Sanchez. —with Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
