Kalibo, Aklan placed under a state of calamity after fire razed public market


Authorities declared a state of calamity in Kalibo, Aklan after a fire razed the public market to the ground before dawn on Sunday.

The fire reportedly started in the meat section and quickly spread to other stalls, according to a report by Chino Gaston on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Vendors tried to save what they could of their wares.

The fire reached the third alarm before it was put out after almost three hours.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Netizen Lyn Paul Magno posted drone videos of the razed market.

 

According to the provincial fire marshal, damage to property was estimated to reach P35 million.

Authorities are investigating whether the fire was caused by old electrical wiring. —KG, GMA News
