Catanduanes placed under state of calamity due to rise in dengue cases
A state of calamity has been declared in the province of Catanduanes due to the rising number of dengue cases.
According to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday, the number of dengue cases has already reached almost 2,000 from January to August this year.
Only around 100 dengue cases were recorded in 2018.
Due to the big volume of patients, even hallways and conference rooms of hospitals were converted into wards.
Police officers who are also registered nurses helped out in attending to the patients.
On July 15, the Department of Health declared a national dengue alert after the number of dengue cases reached 106,630 from January 1 to June 29 this year.
Dengue cases continued to rise, reaching 146,062 cases on July 20, prompting the DOH to declare a national dengue epidemic. —KG, GMA News
