BIGGER, BETTER

One Mindanao strengthens presence in the South with new look, enhanced content

Beginning this Monday, August 19, One Mindanao gives viewers more reason to tune in every afternoon as GMA Regional TV’s unified local newscast in Mindanao brings better local news and features that matter to every Mindanaoan—delivered straight from its latest news hub.

The beefed-up version of One Mindanao sees seasoned TV journalist Tek Ocampo, reputable TV host and news presenter Sarah Hilomen-Velasco, and experienced news correspondent Real Sorroche in a more relaxed environment as they are seated on couches instead of chairs behind the desk usually seen on newscasts. The One Mindanao studio somehow becomes an extension of the viewers’ living room, further connecting the news anchors and the Kapuso in the regions.

The One Mindanao logo dons a new color as well—green that symbolizes GMA Regional TV’s branding throughout the Philippines. In addition to the new studio set, One Mindanao opens its doors to the public as it invites viewers to participate as live studio audience every Friday.

Joining Ocampo, Hilomen-Velasco, and Sorroche in delivering top-notch news from all parts of Mindanao are news correspondents Sheillah Vergara-Rubio, Rgil Relator, Jandi Esteban, and Clyde Macascas together with the various local news teams based in Northern and Southern Mindanao and news stringers across Mindanao.

“For every Mindanaoan, local news matters—if not matters the most. This is why two years ago, we at GMA Regional TV made history when we launched One Mindanao—a local news program made by Mindanaoans, for the Mindanaoans,” GMA Regional TV Vice President and Head Oliver Amoroso. “As we mark One Mindanao’s third year, we offer our loyal viewers a bigger, better, and bolder local news cast. We give you news from different key cities and provinces in Northern and Southern Mindanao in a format that is refreshing, yet with the same quality of reportage only GMA Network can deliver. This is also our way of rising to the challenge of producing relevant stories that matter amid the ever-changing landscape of broadcast journalism,” he adds.

Anchored on the tagline “We are One. We are Mindanao. We are One Mindanao,” One Mindanao airs from Monday to Friday, at 5 p.m. It is simultaneously broadcasted in key cities and provinces in Mindanao thru GMA Network’s local channels in Mindanao: GMA 5 Davao, GMA 35 Cagayan de Oro City, GMA 8 General Santos City, GMA 12 Jolo, Sulu, GMA 9 Zamboanga City, GMA 12 Cotabato City, GMA 2 Tandag City, GMA 10 Surigao City, GMA 26 Butuan City, GMA 4 Dipolog City, GMA 3 Pagadian City, GMA 5 Ozamiz City, GMA 11 Iligan City, and GMA 12 Bukidnon.

“We are proud to share that in a short period of time, One Mindanao has narrowed the gap in the ratings and is now neck-and-neck with competition,” says Amoroso. “Such success is a result of the collective efforts of the men and women of GMA Regional TV who are true to our commitment of Serbisyong Totoo as we reach more viewers in the regions, specifically in Mindanao. Rest assured that through our new look and levelled-up content, One Mindanao will continue to give our Kapusong Mindanaoans the news and public service they have been receiving since day one,” Amoroso ends.

A 2018 Anak TV Seal awardee, One Mindanao has been receiving recognitions from various award-giving bodies. At the recent Gandingan 2019: The 13th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Multi-Media Awards by the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), it was a finalist in various categories, namely: “Most Development-Oriented Public Service Program”, “Most Development-Oriented Feature Story”, “Most Development-Oriented News Story”, and “Most Development-Oriented Investigative Program”. In 2018, Tek Ocampo was recognized as Best News Anchor by the said award-giving body. And at the 2017 Catholic Mass Media Awards, One Mindanao was a finalist in the “Best Special Event Coverage” for its Araw ng Dabaw coverage.

Before its relaunch on Monday, One Mindanao takes the lead in “GMA Regional TV Weekend News”. This Saturday (August 17), Ocampo, Hilomen-Velasco, and Sorroche anchor the Kapuso Network's only local newscast in English to date. GMA Regional TV Weekend News airs on leading news channel GMA News TV every Saturday at 5 pm.
