Rains, high tide submerge several barangays in Calumpit, Bulacan


No dry roads are in sight in several barangays in Calumpit, Bulacan due to non-stop rains the past few days and high tide.

According to Athena Imperial's report on GMA's 24 Oras, in Barangay Calizon, residents have secured their belongings to higher grounds because of the flood.

In Barangay San Miguel, the basketball court, elementary school and barangay hall have all been vacated because of water as high as three feet.

The two barangays are among the 10 villages that turn into a waterworld whenever it rains hard.

"Kinagisnan na po namin na ganito, may mga naka-ready namang mga evacuation centers kapag tumaas na talaga ang tubig," barangay chairman Dave Ryan Sambilay said.

A resident said they have been used to the flooding, which sometimes lasts for two to three months.  

"Sanay na po kasi minsan po tumitigil ito ng dalawang o tatlong buwan,  kaya karamihan sa amin, nagkakasakit sa na paa gaya ng alipunga," he said.

Classes have been cancelled, including at the Dona Damiana de Leon Macam Memorial Elementary School.

"First periodical tets nila ngayon pero dahil walang pasok, na-cancel," Pauline Catacutan, school principal, said.

The town of Hermosa, Bataan was also submerged because of the rains.

Baguio City was also battered by rains that triggered small lanbslides along Kennon Road.  

Motorists have to slow down along Benguet Road because of the reduced visibility.

In Valladolid, Negros Occidental, a tree fell on a house damaging its roof.  No one was hurt. —LDF, GMA News
