More areas under state of calamity due to dengue

The province of Eastern Samar and the city of Calamba in Laguna are now among areas under state of calamity due to the rapid surge of dengue cases.

According to Susan Enriquez's report on Unang Balita on Tuesday, nine people have died from dengue in Eastern Samar, where more than 1,000 cases were recorded from January to July this year.

The mosquito-borne disease also claimed the lives of 11 people in Calamba where cases have soared to 4,000.

Meanwhile, a dengue outbreak was declared in Lipa, Batangas where more than 8,000 cases were recorded. At least 3 people there have died due to the disease.

Due to the rapidly increasing number of cases nationwide, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III declared a National Dengue Alert last month. —Margaret Claire Layug/KBK, GMA News
