Some Bulacan residents burn, dump garbage in waterways due to collection problem

Some residents of Bulacan have been burning their trash or dumping them in creeks as garbage collection remains a problem, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday.

In a barangay in Malolos, a brook has become a dumping ground for trash.

The local government said they have a garbage landfill but it gets filled up fast.

Local officials are thus looking for an alternative landfill to use.

In Bocaue, meanwhile, some residents have thrown trash in rivers, roadways, or vacant lots.

Authorities appealed to residents to segregate their garbage and not to burn them.

At least 17 towns in Bulacan have been beset with growing piles of garbage that have remained uncollected for weeks. —KG, GMA News
