Former PNP official Magalong wins as Baguio mayor


Former Philippine National Police director Benjamin Magalong was proclaimed as the new mayor of Baguio City, according to a report aired on Eleksyon 2019: The GMA News and Public Affairs Special Coverage.

The retired police official was deputy chief for operations of the PNP and also headed the Directorate for Intelligence and Detection Management and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Magalong was also the head of the PNP Board of Inquiry that probed the Mamasapano clash in 2015. He retired in 2016.

Also proclaimed winner was reelectionist Representative Mark Go, beating current Mayor Mauricio Domogan, among others.

For vice mayor, proclaimed winner was incumbent Councilor Faustino Olowan.

Partial and unofficial results as of 4:50 a.m. from the Commission on Elections transparency server showed that the winning candidates had the following number of votes:

  • Go: 58,409
  • Magalong: 41,207
  • Olowan: 40,019

These were from 229 of 230 election returns or 99.57% of the election returns. —KG, GMA News
