Soldier killed in NPA ambush in Isabela

A soldier was killed while a government militiaman was injured in an ambush staged by communist New People's Army (NPA) rebels in Isabela province, the military said Thursday.

The ambush happened on Tuesday at Purok 7 in Barangay San Sebastian in Jones tow, resulting in the death of Private First Class Esternado Zipagan and the wounding of CAA Joey Baguiwong.

According to the military, the two were part of the team that was inspecting Community Support Project.

"Ang walang-awang pagpatay ng mga NPA sa isa nating sundalo na ang tanging pakay ay tumulong at maglingkod sa mga mamamayan ay isang malaking paglabag sa ng mga Communist-NPA-Terrorist sa kapayapaan at karapatang pantao," said Major General Pablo Lorenzo, commander of the Army's 5th Infantry Division. —KBK, GMA News
