Magnitude 6.1 quake damages mall, collapses walls in Olongapo City
The magnitude 6.1 earthquake which hit Luzon on Monday afternoon also caused damage in Olongapo City, Zambales although no casualties were recorded so far, it was learned on Tuesday.
SM Olongapo's building had cracks in the aftermath of the earthquake due to thin plastering, according to a report by GMA News stringer Julie Sionzon on GMA News TV's News To Go.
The cracks were seen by employees from the City Engineering Office.
SM management has assured the public that it will tap the services of structural engineers to comply with the requirements for safety as determined by the City Engineering Office to ensure the structural integrity of its mall even if operations are set to resume on Tuesday.
A wall also collapsed in Olongapo, while a car was hit by a collapsed wall of a car wash station.
While there were no recorded casualties, individuals who experienced dizziness and panic amid the quake were taken to the James Gordon Memorial Hospital for treatment on Monday night. They were also sent home on the same day. —Llanesca T. Panti/KG, GMA News
