"Local election campaign periods have shown traditionally, that there is more conflict and tension in the air," Eleazar said in a statement issued on Thursday.

"We will increase the frequency of checkpoints in the Metropolis to help deter criminal minds in executing their evil designs," he added.

Further, Eleazar warned poll candidates of the consequence they may face should they engage in vote-buying activities.

"I wish to remind the candidates to refrain from vote-buying as this is a criminal act and we shall arrest anybody involved in vote-buying, on the spot," he added.

He also advised the candidates and their campaign organizers to coordinate with authorities to foster orderly political gatherings and rallies. — BAP, GMA News
