Cebu declares state of calamity as crops get scorched amid El Niño
The whole province of Cebu was placed under the state of calamity on Monday due to the impact of the weak El Niño.
According to Allan Gatus' report on Super Radyo dzBB, the provincial council approved the recommendation of the local disaster risk reduction and management office after the crops in different towns got scorched due to the lack of rain.
The production of rice and corn was mainly affected because of the lack of sufficient irrigation water.
On the other hand, the supply of potable water remains stable, according to local authorities.
Farmers hope that the situation will get better when the next cropping season starts in May or June.
PAGASA, however, said that some parts of the country will experience varying degrees of dry condition from March until June due to the effects of the weak El Nino. —Dona Magsino/NB, GMA News
