DPWH appeals for understanding over lengthy MacArthur Highway roadworks
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) appealed to the public to understand why the roadworks along the MacArthur Highway, said to have started as early as 2014, are still ongoing.
According to the DPWH, the MacArthur Highway is easily damaged as the soil underneath is continuously soaked in water.
Among the areas highly affected as Apalit in Pampanga and Calumpit, Malolos, Balagtas, and Bulakan in Bulacan.
"Kaya meron tayong mga reblocking na ginagawa don, 'yun din 'yung mga ginagawa ulit ng contractor na nag-fail dun sa mga dati nilang trabaho," DPWH Region III Assistant Chief for the Construction Division Rodolfo David said in a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend."
"Ongoing 'yung project. 'Pag minsan talaga, minamadali na mapadaan dahil dun sa traffic. Just imagine kung minsan, napipilitan na 'yung mga ibang sections, bubuksan siya," he explained.
The report said construction works in certain parts of the MacArthur Highway are expected to be completed soon. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
