1 dead, 2 missing in Davao Oriental flash flood
One person was reported dead while two remain missing on Tuesday after heavy rain created a flash flood in the town of Manay in Davao Oriental on Monday night.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing in Barangay San Ignacio, said Manay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Head Cesar Camingue in an interview on GMA News TV's QRT.
Residents living along a dead creek in the area were affected by the flash flood.
"Dead creek na po ito, walang tubig sa mga normal na panahon. Kagabi lang, malakas ang ulan, nagkaroon siya ng napakalakas na tubig na umanod sa bahay ng mga pamilya," Camingue said, noting that the locals did not expect it.
Other rivers have overflowed too and low-lying areas in the town have been flooded.
Around 2,000 families in hazard zones have to be relocated by the local government, according to Camingue.
As of Tuesday, all affected roads in the area are already passable. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
