Five killed in van-tricycle crash in GenSan

The number of people killed in the collision between a van and a tricycle in General Santos City has gone up to five, as another of the tricycle's passengers died in hospital.

According to a report on GMA News' "24 Oras," a total of five casualties—all of whom were riding the tricycle—were killed in the crash in Barangay Apongpong in General Santos City.

Initial investigation showed that the van swerved to pull ahead of a motorcycle it was tailing, and instead collided with the tricycle in the opposite lane.

"Bale nag-overtake 'yung van sa isang motor which is pumasok sa lane... Tamang-tama nandoon din 'yung top down which is aksidente niyang nabangga," Police Officer III Roland Pastolero said in the report.

Authorities earlier reported four casualties, but the fifth individual, 11-year old Mary Joe Requintosa, who was brought to the hospital, later died.

The earlier identified casualties are tricycle driver Antonio Sobrio Jr.; Leni Rose Sobrio, who was seven months pregnant; two-year-old Analyn Rose Sobrio; and Josefina Requintosa. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
