Pope Francis commissioned Fr. Andrew Alarcon as the new bishop of the Diocese of Daet in Camarines Norte, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced on Wednesday.

The 47-year-old priest succeeded Fr. Gilbert Garcera who vacated the post after he was installed as archbishop of Lipa, Batangas in April 2017.

Alarcon can be considered a home-grown bishop for he was actually born in the town.

He was ordained a priest in 1996 after taking philosophy at the Holy Rosary Major Seminary in Naga City and theology at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. — Dona Magsino/BAP, GMA News
