Mother loses husband, two kids to Albay landslide triggered by Usman
A mother lost her husband and two children as a landslide triggered by Tropical Depression Usman hit their home in Tiwi, Albay over the weekend.
According to a report by Bam Alegre in 24 Oras on Monday, rescuers retrieved the mud-covered bodies of the last two victims buried in the town of Tiwi this afternoon.
One of the survivors, Lori, burst into tears when the remains of her six-year-old daughter Angel was recovered.
The bodies of her elder child Mark Angelo and her husband Nimrod had earlier been recovered.
Lori's loved ones were among the nine that were fell victim to the landslide that hit on Sunday.
In Legazpi City, families were also devastated by a landslide that struck on Saturday.
Partners Mauro Alegre and Mea Loreto, and their 3-year-old Marco, all passed away after their home was hit by the landslide while they were sleeping.
Ten residents survived, but lost their homes.
"Nanay ako eh, magpakatatag ka may mga anak ka pang umaasa sayo, kahit na ganyan. Dito na kami mag-celebrate ng bagong taon," said Salvacion Loreto, one of the victims.
Albay is currently placed under a state of calamity.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 68 people were killed by landslides and flooding over the weekend.
Usman was downgraded to a low pressure area upon landfall in Eastern Samar on Saturday morning. —Jessica Bartolome/NB, GMA News
