Number of fatalities due to Usman in Tiwi, Albay climbs to 11


The number of fatalities in Tiwi, Albay rose to 11 on  Sunday evening in the wake of cyclone Usman, a television report said.

Bam Alegre's report on GMA's "24 Oras" said among the five fatalities in Barangay Sugod were the 15-year-old Mark Angelo Bobis; Angel, 6; and their father Nimrod Bobis Jr.

While the mother was being interviewed, the body her six-year-old daughter Angel, was found, prompting her to wail in grief.

Three were also reported dead in Barangay Maynonong and one in Barangay Bariis.

Two other fatalities were added to the list of casualties while two people are still missing in town.

"They were advised to evacuate pero nagkumpiyansa nga sila dahil mahina lang naman 'yung tropical cyclone warning signal, eh dito sanay sila sa mataas na tropical cyclone warning signal so nagkumpiyansa sila, hindi sila umalis," Office of Civil Defense-Bicol Region Director Claudio Yabut said.

A portion of Naga Spillway in Tiwi was also damaged by Tropical Depression Usman. —Dona Magsino/LBG, GMA News
