Bulacan State University finds a way to keep teaching Filipino

Filipino will remain part of the curriculum of the Bulacan State University (BulSU) despite a Supreme Court decision that removed Filipino and Panitikan as core subjects in college.

According to Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras" on Friday, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) allowed the university to teach three of its own subjects, namely,  Araling Pilipino, Panitikan at Lipunan at Pagsasaling Wika.

Maria Bulaong, dean of BulSU's College of Arts and Letters, said the school sees to it that there would be no duplication of subjects in Grade 1 to 10, senior high and college.

Wala po itong katotohanan, kasi kami mismo ang pagpapatunay na ibang iba 'yung nalikha naming higher Filipino sa kolehiyo," she said.

Bulaong said removing Filipino subjects from the college curriculum would be like pulling a plant from the ground.

"Sana lang 'yung wikang Filipino, 'yung subject na Filipino, ay hindi mawala kasi identidad natin 'yan eh," she said.

"Ngayon nga lang, may Pilipino pa na medyo naliligwak na 'yung konsepto at ideya ng paninindigan ng mga Filipino sa pagpapahalaga and lalo pa siguro kung tatanggalin," she added. —Margaret Claire Layug/ LDF, GMA News
