Gov says Rosita caused worse damage to infra in Isabela than Ompong

Typhoon Rosita may have caused more damage to infrastructure in Isabela than Typhoon Ompong, Governor Faustino Dy III said on Tuesday.

According to Saleema Refran's report on Balita Pilipinas, more than 11,000 residents fled their homes due to the weather disturbance.

"Kung ikukumpara namin ang Ompong, 'yung Ompong po, sa infrastructure, hindi masyadong nakaapekto," Dy said.

"Pero ngayong itong Bagyong Rosita, tiyak ito magiging masama po ang magiging damage nito sa infrastructure," he added.

Isabela suffered its share of fallen trees, wrecked signages, torn-off roofs and power outage after Rosita made landfall in the province early Tuesday morning.

Richard Sagabaen, a resident, took shelter in his neighbor after the roof of his house flew with the strong winds.

Meanwhile, the house of Emmanuel Alejandro, a resident of Jones, is flooded. He said that Rosita destroyed their crops.

Rosita also crossed Cabarroguis, Quirino, where tall trees have fallen, which almost crush a vehicle of PAGASA.

Strong winds are also felt in Bontoc, Mountain Province since Monday night.

In Sagada, tourist activities were prohibited such as caving and trekking.

Meanwhile in Kalinga, several trees also fell across the road in Tabuk City. Police already conducted clearing operations.

In lower Dangoy in Lubuagan, a landslide took place.

In Itogon, Benguet, where a killer landslide happened last September, residents of Barangay Ucab are imposed to evacuate, to ensure the safety of everyone from the danger brought by the bad weather.

Meanwhile, a small multi-purpose hall in Sitio Garrison served as evacuation for residents who live in danger zone.

According to the barangay captain, the multi-purpose hall is a safe place for evacuees to stay in. —Joviland Rita/NB, GMA News
