CHR to probe alleged NPA ambush on CamNorte cops
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Friday said they would immediately and thoroughly investigate an alleged ambush staged by the New People's Army (NPA) in Camarines Norte, in which three police officers were killed and three others were wounded.
"In armed hostilities, disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force is prohibited under the International Humanitarian Law," the CHR explained. "Hence, the Commission will conduct a thorough and immediate investigation to help see the case through its just conclusion."
The Commission characterized the attack as a manifestation of the severity of the "culture of killings" which imperiled even members of the security services.
"We reiterate our call for the government to expediently address this problem through long-term solutions to prevent savagery from taking over our society," the statement read.
"Only through the rule of law can we reinstate an atmosphere that values each life and abhors violence of any kind," they added. — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM, GMA News
