Ex-village chief nabbed over Cavite shooting incident
A former village chief was arrested before dawn Friday for shooting dead a policeman and wounding at least three others in Cavite province. Radio dzBB reported that Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, Cavite police chief, identified the suspect as Eliseo Pineda, former village chief of Pacheco village in Magallanes town in Cavite. The report said Cavite police arrested Pineda at 4 a.m., on suspicion he was in on a plot to kill Maragondon town Mayor Monte Andaman. Pineda, who figured in a shootout that seriously wounded two policemen and two civilians Wednesday, is now undergoing interrogation. Wednesdayâs shootout injured Inspector Sajid Butac, deputy chief of the Maragondon police station, and Senior Police Officer 1 Reynaldo Beltran, also assigned to the same station. Butac suffered a gunshot wound on the right thigh while Beltran took a bullet on the leg. The two are now confined at a hospital in Maragondon. - GMANews.TV
