Six towns in Pangasinan flooded after San Roque Dam releases water

Six towns in Pangasinan were flooded on Sunday after water was released from San Roque Dam on Saturday.

The towns of Bautista, Tayug, Bayambang, Binmaley, Burgos, and Calasiao had two-feet deep floods, according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB by Mark Makalalad.

PAGASA's hydrology division on Saturday said forced evacuation is advisable in some Pangasinan areas due to the "alarming" amount of water being released by the San Roque Dam.

The dam's gates were open at seven meters and were releasing 1,395 cubic meters per second on Saturday, according to PAGASA hydrologist Richard Orendain.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said on Sunday it was still awaiting reports from local government units and the municipal disaster risk reduction and management offices to determine if other areas were flooded.

According to Rod Castillo, research and planning officer of PDRRMO, San Roque Dam was still releasing water to the Agno River on Sunday.

Water from upland communities such as Baguio City flow into the San Roque Dam.

Meanwhile, Barangay Pinmaludpod in Urdaneta was also flooded as of Sunday.

Many ricefields were also flooded in Urdaneta.
