Napocor continues to release water from San Roque dam

The National Power Corporation (Napocor) said Wednesday it continues to release water from San Roque dam in Pangasinan as the water level remains above normal.

The water level at San Roque was 285.61 meters above sea level as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, compared with the normal level of 280 meters above sea level. the state-owned Napocor said in a statement.

The company said it releases water at a rate of 785 cubic meters per second.

“We are closely monitoring the inflow and outflow of water in the dam with the San Roque Power Corporation,” Conrado Sison, head of Napocor’s Dams Management Department, said.

“We also maintain coordination with the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for timely advisories for the community,” Sison said.

Napocor noted a significant decline in water elevation from 287.18 meters above sea level on Tuesday, due to the slower inflow of water at 890 cubic meters per second from 1342 cubic meters per second.

“Although there is an improving weather condition in the area, the dam elevation is still high which calls for continuous water discharge from its spillway,” it said.

Municipalities along the “dam/flood warning zones” are San Manuel, San Nicolas, Tayug, Sta. Maria, Villasis, Asingan, Rosales, Alcala, Bayambang, and Bautista.

Napocor said it is also closely monitoring the reservoir and the amount of rainfall over the Angat watershed in Bulacan.

Angat Dam’s normal high-water elevation of 212 meters above sea level, compares with the present level of 205.88 meters above sea level. —VDS, GMA News
