San Mateo under state of calamity due to Habagat floods
The municipality of San Mateo in Rizal province was placed under state of calamity on Monday following a weekend of heavy storm-enhanced monsoon rains that resulted in severe flooding, a News TV Live report said.
According to San Mateo's Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, 12 of the municipality's 15 barangays were affected by the inclement weather.
Some 7,000 families were temporarily staying at over 30 evacuation centers.
As the flood receded on Monday, it left knee-deep mud in many streets, the report said.
The rains and the floods also damaged several houses.
A separate report by Tricia Zafra on Balitanghali said many San Mateo residents waded through waist-deep floodwater to salvage their belongings from their flooded houses.
Some evacuated with their livestock.
The same Balitanghali report said the adjacent town of Rodriguez, also in Rizal province, is mulling declaring a state of calamity due to floods. —KBK, GMA News
