Hagonoy, Bulacan floods subside; residents want river dredged

Many residents of Hagonoy, Bulacan have started to bail floodwater out of their homes on Wednesday, except for a few in low-lying areas who did not want to exert too much effort just yet.

According to a report on Balitanghali by Oscar Oida, most of the floods in Hagonoy that came with incessant rainfall on Tuesday, have subsided as of Wednesday afternoon.

However, some residents in Barangay Sagrada Familia with houses near the river expect the floodwaters to rise again once the tide comes in.

Some were quoted as saying that their area is still prone to flooding despite several projects to elevate the roads.

Residents requested to have the river dredged, but the local government did not view it as an "effective" way to solve the flooding.

The local government said a flood control project is already being constructed but was reportedly having budget problems as it was being funded "phase by phase."

Of the residents interviewed, some claimed their homes had been flooded for several days, and some of them, weeks.
