Duterte’s ‘seat of victory’ ready at Davao polling place

The Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School in Davao City was ready early on Monday not just for the start of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, but also for the expected arrival of the precinct's most famous registered voter—President Rodrigo Duterte.

In fact, the school will bring out the "seat of victory", the armchair that Duterte sat on in May 2016 when he came to cast his vote for the national elections which he handily won, according to a report on Unang Balita by Ivan Mayrina.

Arlene Bello-Pernes, principal of the school, said they consider the seat a historical chair and have enclosed it in a glass casing since Duterte became President.

"Very historic po 'yan sa amin," she said, adding that they are very proud of the first Davaoeño to become the highest elected official of the country.

Pernes said they will bring out the chair on Monday "para 'yun ang gamitin niya."

The historical chair has become famous and visitors travel to see it.

School officials immediately set the chair aside on May 9, 2016 right after Duterte used it, and did not let other voters sit on it that day. —KG, GMA News
