Photo showing trash-covered Currimao beach in Ilocos Norte goes viral

A photo of a beach in Currimao, Ilocos Norte covered in a layer of garbage has gone viral on social media.

A report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali on Thursday said the spot is a popular tourist destination.

Residents have started a clean-up drive to clear the mounds of trash mostly composed of plastic containers.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), dismayed by the sorry sight, said it plans to coordinate with the local government on the matter. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
