Baguio City prepares for 500,000 tourists during Holy Week


At least 3,000 policemen and volunteers will be deployed around Baguio City with an expected tourist arrival of 500,000 during the Holy Week.

In a report on 24 Oras, Baguio Councilor Elmer Datuin said the local government will impose several regulations to ease traffic conditions in the city.

"Magkakaroon ng mga one-way areas in Baguio City once we reach 'yung number of vehicles. We did it last Panagbenga, and we hope to implement it again this summer time," he said.

Datuin also serves as the chairperson of Baguio City Council's Committee on Tourism, Special Events, Parks, and Playgrounds.

According to the report, volunteers will also be deployed along with the 3,000 policemen in the city to ensure the public's safety. A number coding scheme will be implemented until Good Friday, March 30.

The city government will allow the public to park their cars in lots owned by local schools and government offices.

Datuin said, however, that pets will not be allowed to enter local parks such as Burnham Park.

"We really have to impose it for sanitary purposes and for security purposes kasi may ibang pet owners that are not responsible," he said. —Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/ALG, GMA News
