Bus company Dimple Star Transport will shoulder the funeral expenses of the 19 passengers who died aboard one of its buses after it fell off a cliff in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday.

According to a report on Unang Balita on Thursday by Bam Alegre, the funeral home where the victims were taken to were notified by the bus line that they will pay for the expenses of the victims.

Families of the victims will also receive burial assistance from the local government unit. The remains of the victims will be claimed by their loved ones from the funeral home on Thursday.

The local government of Sablayan is also arranging a dialogue between the grieving families and Dimple Star Transport, who have yet to reach out to the victims' relatives.

Initial investigations by the police and the chief mechanic of Sablayan's municipality revealed that the bus that fell from the Patrick Bridge was not in optimum condition when it met its tragic end.

The bus, driven by Arno Panganiban, may have had brake failure. Panganiban was among the fatalities.

The vehicle was also found to have rust all over its body and underneath its flooring.

Dimple Star Transport received a preventive suspension order on Wednesday from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) pending investigation into the fatal bus crash.

The order prevents the bus company from plying its usual routes.

LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra said in a separate interview on Unang Balita on Thursday that the preventive suspension order is for one franchise of Dimple Star Transport which covers 10 units. He said the bus company has other franchises.

The preventive suspension order is valid for at least 30 days, he said.

Delgra said Dimple Star Transport will have the opportunity to explain its side on April 18. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
