18,000 Kidapawan residents attempt to break the Guinness World Record for 'Largest Samba Dance'

After residents of Kidapawan City won the "World's Largest Cha Cha" record in 2016, they are setting the bar higher with their latest attempt for the "World's Largest Samba.”

In "Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho," Kidapawan residents gave a glimpse of their preparations to claim the Guinness World Records'  "Largest Samba Dance" title.

Since Kidapawan's anniversary as a city falls on the same date as Brazil's Carnival Festival, the organizers decided to aim for the dance title.

They want to beat Thailand's record for "World's Largest Samba Dance,” which was set in 2014 with 525 participants.

Organizers only expected 15,000 participants during the event, but they were surprised when the crowd ballooned to 18,000.

Kidapawan Dance Sport Association choreographers Leo and Aleli have been training residents since November, making the rounds in 50 schools, 42 barangays, and various local government units.

Three representatives from Guinness World Records also arrived to judge the Kidapawan residents' performance.

Official results will be released in a few months, but the residents are quite confident they will take home the new record. — LA, GMA News
