Mayon Volcano 'erupts,' spews ash
Mayon Volcano spewed ashes during a phreatic eruption on Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
A Super Radyo dzBB report said that according to PHIVOLCS, the phreatic eruption took place at 5:06 p.m.
In a tweet, PHIVOLCS said the volcano spewed a 2,500-meter grayish ash.
The ash fell on the southwest region of the volcano, which covers the Guinabatan-Camalig area, the radio report said.
Photos shared by PHIVOLCS on its Twitter account showed thick columns of ash covering the southwestern part of the volcano.

In an earlier advisory, PHIVOLCS said Alert Level 1 remains imposed on Mayon Volcano.
Alert Level 1 means the volcano is "at abnormal condition.
Although this (Alert Level 1) means that presently no magmatic eruption is imminent, it is strongly advised that the public refrain from entering the 6-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to the perennial life-threatening dangers of rockfalls, landslides/avalanches at the middle to upper slope, sudden ash puffs and steam-driven or phreatic eruptions from the summit," PHIVOLCS said. —ALG, GMA News
