‘White Nazarene’ in Bohol attracts devotees

Devotees in Bohol who were not able to join the annual Traslacion visited a "white" version of the Nazarene instead.

A report on Unang Balita said a "White Nazarene" has been in existence in Talibon town for at least 50 years.

Instead of joining the Traslacion, devotees visit Talibon to light candles and offer their prayers to the White Nazarene.

The image was said to be originally made of wood, but is now made of cement.

Devotees said their faith could not be measured based on the color of the Nazarene.

Meanwhile, devotees in Balanga, Bataan had held their own procession of the replica of the Black Nazarene.

Family and friends of the replica's owner, Jimmy Mangalindan, said the image was entrusted to him by the Saint Joseph Cathedral.

"Yung mga tao po kasi ngayon parami nang parami so imbes na magpunta sila ng Quiapo, at least dito yung mga nahihirapan matutulungan natin sila...Ginawa po natin ito nang sa ganun po ay mapalapit lalo sa ating mahal na Panginoon lalo na sa Jesus Nazareno," Mangalindan said.

A life-size image of the Black Nazarene in Laoag, Ilocos Norte was also flocked by devotees.

Most of the devotees who had ailments prayed for their recovery.

Small replicas of the Black Nazarene which were sold for around P100 to P500 in Laoag were in demand especially for tourists and for returning Filipinos or balikbayans. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/ALG, GMA News
