Catanduanes declares state of calamity
Catanduanes' Provincial Council on Thursday declared a state of calamity due to the continuous rain from the tail-end of a cold front, GMA News TV's "News TV Live" reported.
With the declaration of a state of calamity, the province will have access to its calamity fund which will be used to mitigate the effects of the landslides and heavy flooding.
Areas in the province badly affected by the weather were the towns of San Miguel, Caramoan, and Bagamanoc.
Furthermore, Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua said that fishermen and abaca famers were unable to make a living because of the inclement conditions.
Meanwhile, Lanao del Sur had also declared a state of calamity last December 24 due to the "massive damage and wastage caused by Typhoon Vinta."
The Lanao declaration authorized the governor to access five percent of the province's calamity fund for relief and assitance of those affected by the tropical cyclone. — DVM, GMA News
