1 dead, 9 rescued from capsized boat off Panukulan, Quezon —MDRRMO
At least one person died, while two others went missing after a three-ton-capacity sea vessel sank within the territorial waters of Bonbon, Panukulan, Quezon on Saturday morning.
According to an initial report by Panukulan Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) officer Gereme Erracho, the vessel "Vince Nichole" bound for Infanta, Quezon from Sitio Bungliw, Barangay Rizal, Panukulan, Quezon capsized and sank at Bonbon waters at about 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Erracho said one of the passengers identified as Nancy Samodio was confirmed dead while nine passengers have already been rescued.
Meanwhile, the two missing passengers were identified as John Rex and John Darren Cabuyao.
Erracho said the sea mishap was possibly due to the "strong winds and current which resulted to the sinking pf the boat," citing information from barangay officials and field rescuers who responded at the scene.
Panukulan MDRRMO personnel and rescuers from the Kabalikat Civicom - Panukulan were ordered at the scene after Erracho received a call from a concerned citizen regarding the sinking vessel.
The sinking came just two days after four people died and more than 160 others were rescued from a fast craft with 251 people on board that capsized off the same province. — MDM, GMA News
