Palace: Probe into Quezon ferry mishap ongoing

Investigations on the sinking of MV Mercraft 3 off Quezon province have started, Malacañang said on Friday.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque in a statement said Malacañang was saddened by the incident and reminded officials to observe due diligence, especially during the holidays.

“Investigations have started to determine what caused this sea mishap even as we call on our transport officials to exercise due diligence in the performance of their duties especially with the expected huge influx of [travelers] to the provinces this holiday season,” he said.

Roque did not immediately specify which particular agencies were conducting the probes.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council earlier said that at least 5 died and 252 were rescued from the ferry that capsized on Thursday. — MDM, GMA News
