Argao church in Cebu province ready for bamboo organ concert

The parishioners of St. Michael the Archangel church in Argao town, Cebu has spent several weeks preparing to host a bamboo organ concert on Saturday.

The event was set after the decades-old organ was repaired by the Diego Cera Organ Builders Inc., the same group that maintain the bamboo organ in Las Piñas City.

On Monday, pianist Charissa Mae Sarchez was able to finally play "Canon in D Major" by 18th century German composer Johann Pachelbel as shown in the video taken by Cebu Archdiocesan Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church Board Member Rudy Alix.

Parish priest Msgr. Camilo Alia and the other organizers of the event are expecting about a hundred guests on Saturday, including Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III, Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, members of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).

The restoration work costs about P 4 million, which was sourced from the NHCP win collaboration with the Department of Tourism.

The Argao church itself recently underwent restoration, in which gold paint was carefully removed from the statues of saints and the retablo behind the altar. — BAP, GMA News
