14 NPA members surrender in Agusan del Sur
Fourteen members of the New People’s Army surrendered to the 26th Infantry Battalion in Talacogon, Agusan del Sur Monday morning.
2nd Lieutenant Romel Arnado, 26th IB civil military officer, said the NPA members yielded 16 firearms of different calibers.
The military believe that the communist rebels in the area suffered setbacks after recent armed encounters with government forces.
Liutenant Colonel Rommel Pagayon, 26IB commanding officer, expressed hope that more rebels will surrender to the government.
“We are hopeful that more of them will realize futility of their ideology. 26IB is committed to prevent the NPA terrorists’ criminal activities against our people and the communities,” he said.
Colonel Andres Centino, Army’s 401st brigade commander, lauded the efforts of 26IB as he called on more members of the NPA to surrender.
"Options are open to them to live normal lives. Be part of a peaceful community. Be among us," he said. — BM, GMA News
