PNP allots P20M for construction of Marawi police station, public assistance centers
Some P20 million has been allocated by the Philippine National Police for the construction of the Marawi City Police Station and other community and public assistance centers in the city destroyed during the siege led by Abu Sayyaf’s Isnilon Hapilon and the Maute-ISIS group.
The PNP Engineering Service bids and awards committee will conduct a pre-bid conference on December 5 while the opening of bids will be on December 19.
The approved budget for the construction of Marawi City police station is P14.552 million while the P1.205 million will be allotted for the construction of perimeter fence and guard house for the police station.
Two community and public assistance centers will also be constructed with a budget of P1.362 million each while P1.519 million will be allotted for the ground development of the Marawi police station.
The Marawi Police Station, located in the main battle area, was one of the first targets of the Maute group when they attacked the city on May 23.
Government troops regained the police station in August after a dangerous operation by Task Group Musang of Scout Rangers, 51st infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, and Joint Task Group composed of the Special Action Force of the PNP.
It was then that they found human remains believed to be of Senior Inspector Edwin Placido, the Marawi police deputy chief, inside the station. Placido had defended the station against members of the ISIS-inspired Maute group.
President Rodrigo Duterte declared the liberation of Marawi last October 17, a day after the killing of Hapilon and Omar Maute.
As of October 17, a total of 847 Maute members, 163 government troops, and 47 civilians have been killed. A total of 1,770 civilians have been rescued while 846 firearms have been recovered. — RSJ, GMA News
