Angono residents troop to cemeteries on Nov. 2 for All Souls’ Day
Unlike the rest of the country where Filipinos pay their respects to departed loved ones on Nov. 1, All Saints' Day (Undas), Angono in the province of Rizal traditionally does so on Nov. 2, All Souls' Day.
According to a report on Unang Balita on Thursday by Bam Alegre, Angono residents started trooping to public and private cemeteries early in the morning.
The cemeteries are located beside each other — the Angono Municipal Cemetery Heaven's Gate, Sympathy Memorial Park, and St. Clement Catholic Cemetery.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were at the cemeteries ready to assist senior citizens visiting the tombs of their departed family members.
Police officers were also on standby along with local government officials and volunteers to ensure peace and order and assist the public.
The command center of Angono, however, expect fewer visitors to cemeteries compared last year due to the inclement weather.
Angono Mayor Gerardo Calderon earlier encouraged government and private institutions and business establishments to observe All Souls' Day on Nov. 2.
Days before All Souls' Day, Calderon visited cemeteries to inspect security preparations for Undas.
