Laguna Lake Expressway linking Taguig to Taytay to have bike lane

Public works, transportation, and local government officials on Friday led the launch of the second phase of Laguna Lake Expressway, a road meant to reduce travel time from Bicutan, Taguig, to Taytay, Rizal, from one hour to 30 minutes.

Apart from four lanes for motor vehicles, the expressway also has a new, integrated bike lane, said Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar during the launch in Taguig City.

He said the construction of half of the 10-kilometer alignment is set to be finished by the end of the year, while overall construction should wrap up by the second quarter of 2018.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade lauded the inclusion of a bike lane into the expressway's design, echoing Taguig-Pateros Representative Pia Cayetano, who said transportation should not just be limited to motorized means.

Tugade describes bikes as "a healthy mode of transport."

The Laguna Lake Highway, also known as Circumferential Road 6 (C-6), rings Laguna De Bay and its objective is "to decongest EDSA, C5 and other major arteries of Metro Manila and Rizal by providing an alternate route from Parañaque to Quezon City by passing through developing areas of Taguig, Taytay, Antipolo, and San Mateo," Villar said in August. —Nicole-Anne Lagrimas/KBK, GMA News
